Greece, Armenia ‘butchered’ by Turkey, says Greek president

Greece and Armenia were “butchered” by Turkey in their past, the Greek president told his Armenian counterpart yesterday as he bemoaned a costly arms race with Ankara that helped create Greece’s vast debts.

“We were butchered by the same barbarian,” President Karolos Papoulias told his counterpart Serzh Sdargsyan who began a three-day visit.

The Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA) joined today with Pontian Greeks – and all Hellenes, Assyrians, Syriacs, and other communities representing the victims of Turkey’s genocidal campaign against its Christian minorities – in commemorating May 19th, the international day of remembrance for the genocide initiated by the Ottoman Empire and continued by Kemalist Turkey against the historic Greek population of Pontus along the southeastern coast of the Black Sea.

Armenian cemeteries annihilated in Turkey

Armenian cemetery of Aydynodjaq village, in Gevash region, Van, has been turned into a school, and now another Armenian cemetery in Yaylaqonaq village, Van is under threat of annihilation aimed to be turned into a public house.

Armenian and Greek American activists of New York City, outraged over McMahon’s efforts to profit from vote against Genocide resolution

NEW YORK— The Cyprus Action Network of America (CANA) picketed Congressman Michael McMahon’s (D-NY-13) March 27th Turkish fundraiser in New York. Activists and community members of local Greek-American groups are outraged that McMahon accepts Turkish blood money. The Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA) has issued a press release and a grassroots you tube video covering this action. The ANCA has participated in the Greek-Cypriot July 20th demonstrations outside the Turkish Embassy in Washington DC to mark the criminal Turkish invasion of Cyprus. Armenian ANCA activists have also been very active in Pontian Greek Genocide recognition, joining several lectures with George Mavropoulos of the Pontian Greek Society in Chicago on genocide recognition, including a joint event in San Diego at the National Council for the Social Studies in Dec. 07 on the «Forgotten Genocides.»

Turkey threatens to expel 100,000 Armenians

Turkey’s prime minister has threatened to deport 100,000 Armenian migrants, amid renewed tensions over Turkish mass killings of Armenians in World War I.

Recent resolutions in the US and Sweden have called the killings «genocide».

Recep Tayyip Erdogan told the BBC that of 170,000 Armenians living in Turkey «70,000 are Turkish citizens».

HELLENIC ACTIVISTS FIGHT FOR JUSTICE FOR TURKEY’s CRIMES

NEW YORK—On the weekend of September 19th-20th activists of the Hellenic League of America (HLA) and The Cyprus Action Network of America (CANA) stood in support of Justice for Turkey’s Genocidal Crimes by joining the “Justice, Not Protocols” demonstration on Saturday September 19th outside the Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York City, and participating in ‘The 87th Anniversary of the Greek Holocaust’ in Brooklyn, New York on Sunday September 20, 2009.

For over 10 years now the small Three Hierarchs Greek Orthodox Church of Brooklyn New York has been holding a Memorial Service for the victims of the Hellenic Genocide. Organized by Archon Deputatos and Basilios Theodosakis, this year’s small commemoration entitled ‘The 87th Anniversary of the Greek Holocaust’ featured such guest speakers as Ioannis Fidanakis, President of Panthracian Union of America “Orpheus”, Dimitris Molohidis, General Secretary of the Pan-Pontian Federation , and Professor Michael Stratis.
