Αντιβιοτικά – Οι συνέπειες της κατάχρησής τους και συμβουλές για έξυπνη χρήση τους

Μάθετε να χρησιμοποιείτε έξυπνα τα αντιβιοτικά, για να τα έχετε «με το μέρος σας» όταν πραγματικά τα χρειαστείτε.

Τα αντιβιοτικά είναι σημαντικά φάρμακα, ίσως τα πιο σημαντικά, «ιδιαίτερα σε έναν κόσμο με «ένα άνευ προηγουμένου κύμα νέων και παλαιών λοιμώξεων», όπως έγραψαν επιστήμονες της Κλινικής Μάγιο στις ΗΠΑ. Συχνά όμως χρησιμοιπούνται με κακό τρόπο: υπερσυνταγογραφούνται, λαμβάνονται λανθασμένα από τους ασθενείς και χορηγούνται σε φάρμες ζώων.

Ετσι τα σωτήρια αντιβιοτικά χάνουν την αποτελεσματικότητά τους πιο γρήγορα από όσο αναπτύσσονται άλλα για να αντικατασταθούν. Γι’ αυτό ο Παγκόσμιος Οργανισμός Υγείας έχει ανακηρύξει την ανθεκτικότητα των μικροβίων στα αντιβιοτικά ως το βασικό θέμα της φετινής Παγκόσμιας Ημέρας Υγείας  7 Απριλίου.

Ο επιστήμονας που καθοδηγεί τη νέα αποστολή «Άρτεμις» της NASA και που είναι υπεύθυνος για τη μελέτη του μαγνητικού πεδίου Γης-Ήλιου-Σελήνης είναι ελληνικής καταγωγής!

Ο Βασίλης Αγγελόπουλος, συγκεκριμένα, αποφοίτησε το 1986 από το Τμήμα Φυσικής του Αριστοτελείου Πανεπιστημίου Θεσσαλονίκης και στη συνέχεια έκανε μεταπτυχιακά και διδακτορικό (με υποτροφία του Ιδρύματος Φουλμπράιτ), στη φυσική του διαστημικού πλάσματος, στο πανεπιστήμιο UCLA, ενώ έχει τιμηθεί δύο φορές από την Αμερικανική Γεωφυσική Ένωση για το ερευνητικό έργο του.

Μια ιστορία ύμνος την ανθρώπινη δύναμη

Μια συγκινητική και απίστευτα δυνατή ιστορία.

Ο Dick Hoyt είναι ένας συνταξιούχος του Αμερικανικού στρατού, ζει στην πόλη Holland της Μασαχουσέτης των Η.Π.Α. και είναι σήμερα 69 ετών. 47 χρόνια πριν η σύζυγός του Judy έφερε στον κόσμο ένα αγοράκι. Το ονόμασαν Rick. Η γέννα ήταν δύσκολη καθώς ο ομφάλιος λώρος είχε μπλεχτεί γύρω από το λαιμό του εμβρύου. Δυστυχώς σταμάτησε η αιμάτωση του εγκεφάλου για τα πρώτα ζωτικά λεπτά.

Reps. Bilirakis, Maloney Call for Protection of Religious Sites and Artifacts in Cyprus

U.S. Reps. Gus Bilirakis (R-Fla.) and Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.), co-chairs of the Congressional Hellenic Caucus, introduced a resolution Thursday that calls for the protection of religious sites and artifacts from and in Turkish-occupied areas of northern Cyprus as well as for general respect for religious freedom. «Passage of this resolution will show that Congress makes international religious freedom a priority,» said Bilirakis, a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the International Religious Freedom Caucus.

households around the country forms that must be completed and returned to the U.S. Census Bureau.

Question No. 9 on the form concerns race and is where one can clearly define his or her origin. U.S. Census Bureau officials have stated it is possible to select more than one category. For those who wish to declare their Greek origin, they can do so by writing «Greek» or «HELLENIC» in the field, «Some other race.»

It is announced that the letter written by His Eminence Metropolitan Theoleptos of Iconium to the newspaper in America, The National Herald, was a result of the author’s own personal decision and initiative. This letter was sent without the knowledge of the Mother Church and its content does not reflect the views held by the Ecumenical Patriarchate.

The sentiments of appreciation and love of the Ecumenical Patriarchate for His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios were expressed by His All Holiness repeatedly during his official visit to the United States this past Fall also in honor of the conclusion of His Eminence’s 10th year of fruitful ministry to the Archdiocese of America.
